I have not heard of this particular problem before however I do know that the T4A maps can sometimes clash with the Garmap maps when both mapsets are activated at the same time. This generally results in the maps not displaying correctly on the screen or, if they do actually display then the autorouting feature is affected causing the unit to display some rather "interesting routes" ;-)

I have never heard of the maps affecting the GPS signal acquisition of a unit.

Thanks for the feedback. I read a discussion where there was a problem switching between Garmap and T4A maps and that the GPS lost the satellite signal along the way. Is it still the case or has it been solved?

@ Karin

Unfortunately the memory on the Quest units is not expandable. Your plan to just load the map tiles of the areas that you will be passing through would be the only way of doing it.

Angola has not yet been covered on the Garmap mapset. You may want to have a look at the Tracks4Africa mapset for 4x4 trail coverage of Angola (it covers a fair bit of Southern Angola).

Hi

I have two questions:

1. We have a Garmin Quest II and I've upgraded to the Southern African Topo & Rec last year. However, at this stage I'm sticking to my original Southern Africa Streetmaps as the upgrade is too big to fit only my GPS. Any idea how to overcome this, or is it possible to increase the memory. At this stage it looks like I've to plan a trip in advance and then just load the tiles of the areas I'll be passing through on the GPS.

2. Are their maps available for Angola, specifically the southern part.

Thanks

Hi Marie

Sorry, as far as I am aware, neither Tom Tom nor Garmin make maps for Morocco at the moment. Garmin maps will also not work on a Tom Tom system.

Do you have any maps of Morocco and are they compatible with a Tom Tom unit. I made a mistake and bought one

Leon

I would strongly suggest that you wait until you get to Australia before buying maps for your 710. The Australian maps purchased in SA are very expensive for some (unknown) reason.

Brett

As far as I know, LEAF are the official distributors in SA. I do not know of anyone else selling the Navigon software at the moment.

Garmin will be making their software compatible with third party GPS chips sometime in the future but we don't have a specific date yet. It could be weeks, months or years ;-)
