Garmin have released a firmware update for the Nuvi 200 and… Can you believe it?

Changes made from version 2.90 to 3.10:

  • Fixed a bug that caused off route recalculations to be delayed in beginning the recalculation.
  • Added support for Afrikaans text translations.
  • Added new time zone for the Middle East.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause the wrong help file to be displayed for the Language setup help.
  • Added support for the following new voices: Luxembourgish, Arabic, Catalan, Afrikaans, Mandarin, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Cantonese, and Taiwanese.

Yep, we now have Afrikaans text and voice for the Garmin Nuvi 200. So for those of you with Nuvi 200 units (Note: although there was also a recent update for the Nuvi 200W units, these do not yet include the Afrikaans language updates) pop along to the Garmin.com website and update your firmware pronto. Also remember NOT to use the automatic WebUpdater program on the Garmin website to do this firmware update, but rather right click on the download file, save it to your PC somewhere and then run the file directly from your PC manually(by double clicking on the .exe file). EDIT - November 2007: It seems that you may have to download the Firmware update to your PC as originally indicated but for the Afrikaans voice files you will have to use the WebUpdater program to search for “extra” updates (the voice files themselves). In this case, using the WebUpdater program seems to be OK as your Nuvi 200 unit firmware will already be up to date (from your manual process) and the program will then simply be updating the small voice files only. EDIT 2 - February 2008: The WebUpdater program has now been declared by the Garmin SA technical folk as being safe to use for Nuvi owners in South Africa. Download the latest version of WebUpdater.
