When you're looking at the "entry level" models like the Nuvi 2xx series, it is cheaper to purchase the European maps separately on a preloaded memory card.

It is only the higher end (and more expensive) models like the Nuvi 760 that already have the European maps preloaded to the unit.

Hi Amos

Garmap has a policy of releasing two map software updates per year. One is a "paid" update (the most recent) and the other will be free (the next update). Note that while unlocking the maps in the next update will be free, you will still have to purchase the DVD that the updates come out on (usually around R99). The free update is also only applicable if you own the version immediately prior to the free release.

A GPS navigation system is only as good as the maps that are loaded on to it and, if you want quality map software, you should be prepared to pay for it.

I also believe that you get what you pay for and those systems offering all their map upgrades for Free are worth exactly what they cost... nix, nada, diddly, zip etc ;-)

Hi, the thing that bugs me the most about the whole Garmap 2008, is why I have to pay R350 to unlock the Southern Africa streetmaps, if I have the version 1.5 already unlocked. Upgrading from version 1 to version 1.5 were free. Will following releases also be charged? Other GPS systems offers map upgrades for free. Why does Garmin suddenly change their way of doing things?
